David
lives in London, Ontario and is the father of two young children,
Myles and Grant. As a Past-president of a local
Optimist Club, David established himself as a "Friend
of Youth" in his community. Continuing in this spirit,
David coached little league soccer, baseball, and was involved
with Scouts Canada as a Beaver leader.
In
1983, David left a management position in the hospitality industry
to pursue a career as an independent financial services broker.
Since then, he built a successful general insurance brokerage
named "The Insurance People." In 1995, after
recognizing a growing trend that fundamentally changed the way
that business was conducted, David sold the practice and turned
his focus on wealth management.
David
is dedicated to helping his clientele secure their financial goals
through careful planning and prudent investing. David enjoys
relationships with some of Canada's leading professional money
managers including billionaire investor Michael Lee Chin, Money
Manager of the Year award winner Jonathan Wellum, and the sloth
like Larry Sarbit, all dedicated Buffettologists.
During
his career, David was invited to participate in round table discussions
about the future of the general insurance industry by the Consumers
Association of Canada and Canadian Insurance Magazine. Canadian
Insurance had published articles written by David on several different
occasions. David was a member of the President's Council for the
former Investment Centre, a predecessor to Cartier Partners, and
is currently a member of the FundEX Advisory Council.
David
served as a Vice-president of a national trade association, the
Independent Financial Brokers of Canada, where he had been
a member since 1987. During the 12 years of David's service he
was able to directly influence the cutting edge of developments
within the financial services industry. David's most notable accomplishment
was the adoption of several key recommendations that he personally
lobbied politicians and regulators for. David authored the position
paper for his trade association responding to regulators on the
development of a new self-regulatory body, the Mutual Fund Dealers
Association.
